Qatar Charity is conducting a fundraising campaign for the Islamic Community Centre of Ontario (ICCO) project in Mississauga, Ontario through its bank account (No 100024571) at Qatar Islamic Bank.

Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Al-Hammadi of Qatar Charity (and a member of International Union of Muslim Scholars headed by Yusuf al-Qaradawi) posted a poster on his twitter account calling people to donate for the project by saying (translated from Arabic): “Take part in an ongoing donation for the Islamic Centre in Canada. Be a factor in spreading Islam.”

On its official website the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) provides the following details on ICCO project:

“Why we need the ICCO?

“May 03, 2013

“The Muslim Community in Mississauga and surrounding cities is in a dire need for the Islamic Community Centre of Ontario project.  In addition to the existing large Muslim community, the GTA receives significant number of immigrants every year causing a major gap in services and institutions to support them.

“The objective of the ICCO project is to build a welcoming institution that will service the community and protect the Muslim identify of our children, families and community; as a result  establish an Islamic presence in Canada that is balanced, constructive, and integrated, though distinct, in the social fabric and culture of Canada.

“The ICCO project is unique and different than other masajid [mosques] and centers in the GTA.  Most existing masjids server as a locally based institution to serve those Muslims who live within a small radius of the masjid.  However, the spirit of our ICCO institution is to provide programs and services for Muslims right across the GTA.

The ICCO will include the largest MAC Youth Centre hosting a full recreation centre and youth club.  A large group of youth are involved with our team to help propose a design for the youth centre and will work directly with architects to build a one of a kind youth institution that will server hundreds of youth Inshallah [God Willing].”

MAC's official website added in this regard the following:

"The Islamic Community Centre of Ontario (ICCO) was a project established in 1997 with the scope of a masjid, recreation centre, banquet hall and school.

"To date MAC has fulfilled its promise of the school with great success, by the will of Allah SWT, through the Olive Grove School. The organization is now completing its promise to implement the Masjid, recreation centre and the banquet hall through its newly purchased location at 2550 Dunwin Drive near Winston Churchill and Dundas in Mississauga.

"Our new Location is a 2.5 acre property with an existing 20,000 SF building. The building has a 24’ clearing allowing for two floors Inshallah.

"The property was purchased for $3,200,000. After closing costs and tax the final price is $3,716,000. This closing is September 30, 2013. MAC has a dedicated fund for the ICCO of $1,000,000 and this is ready Inshallah. The remaining amount of $2,716,000 must be collected with the generous support of the community.

"We estimate a renovation cost of $3,000,000 and we are already in the process of engaging an architect and engineers to plan this process."

The project will host the following facilities the following facilities: Masjid [mosque], Gym, Fitness Centre, Youth Club, Banquet Hall and Community Support Services Office. Services that will be provided include 5 daily prayers, Friday prayer, Taraweeh prayer [extra prayers performed by Muslims at night in the Islamic month of Ramadan], Dawah programs [proselytizing or preaching of Islam], Community Lectures and Classes, Youth programs, Children programs, Sport programs, Family programs, Tarbiya [education] and Leadership training, Family support services and Banquet services.

In July 2008 Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, signed an order declaring 36 funds around the world, members of the "Union of Good" organization, to be banned associations in Israel since they are part of Hamas's fundraising network, and both support and assist it. One of these organizations is Qatar Charity (جمعية قطر الخيرية), including its branches in the PA-administered territories.

The Israeli official announcement explained that “the order outlaws a great number of bodies that are active abroad and which are responsible for raising very large sums for Hamas activities in Judea, Samaria [the West Bank] and the Gaza Strip.”

It further emphasized the following: “the "Union of Good" is, in effect, a roof organization for foundations operated by Hamas around the world, especially in Europe and the Persian Gulf countries. It was outlawed by the Defense Minister in 2002 for its massive support of Hamas…

“Dozens of foundations that are operated abroad by Hamas, most of which are members of the Union of Good, along with dozens of Hamas charitable associations active in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, form a well organized and coordinated support network, that includes Hamas's fundraising arm abroad and the vital civilian and infrastructure networks in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.  In this framework, tens of millions of dollars per annum are transferred from the overseas foundations to Hamas associations in the field.

“Recently, it has become clear that Union-affiliated foundations are trying to raise funds not only for Hamas charitable associations in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, but for the activities of the Hamas government as well.  The Chairman of the Union of Good is the infamous Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi…

“There is no doubt that, in light of its scope, this significant declaration will require the Israeli and world banking and financial systems to prepare accordingly and act with caution in order to avoid criminal actions or civil lawsuits by victims of terrorism, such as that against the Arab Bank, in the US.”
